Surface Free Energy Determination of APEX Photosensitive Glass
نویسندگان
چکیده
Surface free energy (SFE) plays an important role in microfluidic device operation. Photosensitive glasses such as APEX offer numerous advantages over traditional glasses for microfluidics, yet the SFE for APEX has not been previously reported. We calculate SFE with the Owens/Wendt geometric method by using contact angles measured with the Sessile drop technique. While the total SFE for APEX is found to be similar to traditional microstructurable glasses, the polar component is lower, which is likely attributable to composition. The SFE was modified at each stage of device fabrication, but the SFE of the stock and fully processed glass was found to be approximately the same at a value of 51 mJ ̈ m ́2. APEX exhibited inconsistent wetting behavior attributable to an inhomogeneous surface chemical composition. Means to produce more consistent wetting of photosensitive glass for microfluidic applications are discussed.

Ultra-Sharpening of Diamond Stylus by 500 eV O+/O2 + Ion Beam Machining without Facet and Ripple Formation
The price of single point diamond tools with a sharp tip is very high due to complex machining process and highly expensive machining equipments. Yet, the performance is not quite satisfactory. In this paper, we have presented a very simple and cost effective machining process for the sharpening and polishing of diamond stylus using low energy reactive ion beam machining (RIBM). In our method, ...

متن کاملDetermination of the activation energy of crystallization based up on Ozawa and Kissinger formalisms and thermal stability of V2O5-NiO- TeO2 glasses by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
In the present research work, (60-x)V2O5-xNiO-40TeO2 amorphous bulk compositions with different molar percentages of 0≤x≤20 mol%, were prepared by well-known rapid melt-quenching method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at different heating rates (φ) was used to thermal analyze and to obtain more insight in to the thermal stability, glass forming tendency and so calorimetric characteris...
متن کاملDetermination of the Nucleation and Crystallization Parameters for Making Nanoporous Titanium Phosphate Glass-ceramics
Nanoporous glass-ceramics were prepared with composition 45CaO-25TiO2-35P2O5 (mol%). Two molar percent of Na2O was added as a flux to the composition. With the aforementioned composition, glass melted and crystallized into glass-ceramics containing β-Ca3(PO4)2 and CaTi4(PO4)6 as the main phases. The differential thermal analysis (DTA) was conducted to determine the suitable temperatures f...
